eSIM FAQ.
The most common questions travellers ask before — and after — installing their first eSIM.
Do I need to remove my physical SIM?+
No. Most phones support a physical SIM and an eSIM at the same time. You can use your home SIM for calls and texts while the eSIM handles data.
Will I get a new phone number?+
Travel eSIM data plans don’t come with a phone number — they’re data-only. Your existing number stays active on your home SIM.
How long does activation take?+
Usually under two minutes. Scan the QR code, confirm the profile, choose it as your data line, and you’re online.
Can I use WhatsApp, iMessage, and FaceTime?+
Yes. These services run over data, so they work as soon as your eSIM connects.
What happens when my plan expires?+
Data simply stops. You can top up the same eSIM (where supported) or install a new one — your phone keeps both profiles unless you delete them.
Is an eSIM safe?+
Yes. eSIM profiles are encrypted and use the GSMA security standard. They’re actually harder to clone or steal than physical SIMs.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?+
Yes. Carrier-locked phones often can’t install third-party eSIM profiles. If your phone is locked to a carrier, you’ll need to unlock it first.
What if I lose signal?+
Your phone will automatically search for any other partner network in the area, just like normal roaming behaviour.
